Answers to some of the questions we are most frequently asked.

What are qualifying health conditions in Arizona?

In Arizona, qualifying conditions include Cancer, Glaucoma, HIV, AIDS, Hepatitis C, ALS, Crohn’s Disease, Alzheimer’s, PTSD, chronic pain and other chronic illnesses. For a complete list of qualifying conditions, click here.

How do I get my Qualifying Patient card?

You will need to visit a licensed physician and have them fill out a recommendation form. You can download the form by clicking here. Once the physician makes the recommendation, your paperwork will need to be submitted to the Arizona Department of Health Services for approval (most clinics will assist with submitting the required documents to the State). The approval process typically takes around two weeks. Once everything is satisfactory, you’ll receive your card via mail. Once you have your card, stop by one of our two locations for a free comprehensive consultation.

Does The Giving Tree grow its own cannabis?

Our highly qualified team grows a majority of our flower. Our team members also extract the resin from the plant material using ice water and supercritical CO2. The results are a top tier product that is free of harmful chemicals

What is the difference between hash oil, hash, shatter, wax, etc.?

It’s all hash! The words “shatter,” “wax,” and “crumble” are all descriptive terms describing the texture, depending on how it’s processed. When selecting hash the most important factor is the extraction method. The most popular techniques include solventless, ice water, CO2, and BHO (Butane). The Giving does not sell any products that have used BHO/butane for extraction. It is our belief that our patients deserve the highest quality, cleanest medicine available on the market, which is why we only use ice water and CO2 extraction methods.

What is the difference between sativa and indica?

Sativa and indica are simplified ways to describe the different experiences when using cannabis strains. In reality, very few plants produce either one effect or the other. Strains that are predominantly uplifting, energizing, creative and euphoric are referred to as “sativa” and those that are more sedating, relaxing, and calming are referred to as “indica”.

To better dial in the effect of the strain and match it to the symptoms a patient wants to treat, it is wise to look not only at cannabinoid potency but also the terpene profile. Terpenes are what give the flowers their smell and sometimes their color as well as some of the properties of the strain. This is what is referred to as “whole plant” or “the entourage effect” where the different components of the plant work together to produce an effect.

We test for both terpenes as well as cannabinoid potency and using these results in conjunction with a patient consultant we can help guide you towards a strain that will fit your needs.
